Engines and transmissions

    The 2.5 litre TFSI engine of the Audi RS Q3 delivers genuine high performance. With a displacement of 2,480 cc, it produces 228 kW of power and provides 420 Nm of torque in the 1,500 to 5,200 rpm range. This provides superior power delivery at low revolutions on the one hand and enormous sprinting ability up to a maximum speed of 6,800 rpm on the other.

    The extraordinary 5-cylinder design lends the Audi RS Q3 an unmistakable sound range by virtue of the ignition sequence. It also provides the advantages of compact dimensions and low weight, which takes into account the vehicle layout and has a positive influence on the balance of the axial distribution. Naturally, all of the parts in this engine are engineered to meet the demanding requirements for use in the Audi RS Q3.


    The two Audi core technologies of turbocharging and direct fuel injection in this engine also provide for high output yield, impressive torque and efficiency. Pneumaticallycontrolled flaps convert the incoming air to the cylinders into a rotating movement. The fuel is injected into this “tumble” in precisely metered quantities at pressures of up to 125 bar. This produces an intense swirling action, which in turn cools the interior walls of the cylinders. This enables the compression ratio of the engine, and consequently its efficiency, to be increased. The generously sized exhaust gas turbocharger has a separate oil supply and a cooling circuit with a separate water pump. It compresses the air with a relative charging pressure of up to 1 bar. An intercooler is provided for increased efficiency.So much for the theory. In practice, the Audi RS Q3 will accelerate you from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, and continue on to an electronically regulated top speed of 250 km/h.

    Start-stop system

    The start-stop system helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by switching off the engine in stationary phases, e.g. at traffic lights. The start process is initiated as soon as the foot brake is released when moving off again. It can be deactivated via a button at any time.



    Increasing the generator voltage converts kinetic energy into usable electric power when the vehicle is coasting or braking. This recuperated (brake) energy is then used to assist the generator during subsequent acceleration, saving up to 3 % fuel.


    S tronic®

    A high-performance vehicle needs an adequate transmission. The Audi RS Q3 features a dual-clutch transmission which is noted for its fast gear changes and highly efficient operation. Its high level of efficiency helps to reduce both fuel consumption and emissions. In addition, the seventh gear with long transmission ratio has been designed as overdrive.


    Wave brake discs

    The wave brake discs at the front comprise a cast friction ring with a wave-shaped outer contour which is connected to the brake disc chamber by means of aluminium pins. The use of aluminium and the characteristic geometry of the friction rings reduce the weight of the brake discs, thus improve the balance of the unsprung masses.


    Lightweight technology

    Audi’s pioneering lightweight technology combines innovation, intelligent design and production processes that use resources sparingly into an overall concept. Many lightweight measures have already been implemented in the Audi RS Q3.  The steel shell design of the Audi RS Q3 combines low weight with high rigidity. The design features thin metal panels made of hot- and cold-formed steel. Further weight reductions have been achieved through the use of aluminium on the bonnet and tailgate.  Aluminium chassis components and the innovative wave brake discs with wave-shaped outer contour on the front axle help to reduce not just the overall weight, but also the unsprung masses, thereby improving the rolling characteristics. Each lightweight component has an effect on other components, allowing their dimensions to be reduced as well. The result is a continuous development process towards less weight and more efficiency.
