The Audi Q7 at a glance.

New, distinctively powerful design. Lightweight construction and quattroR standard on all models, for the first time with all-wheel steering available. Audi Q7 introduces numerous new driver assistance systems as well as innovative infotainment and connect services in the segment.

    Exterior design.

The Audi Q7 makes a distinctive appearance on any road. Like hardly any other vehicle, its design embodies the spirit of quattroR. Its exterior is particularly impressive and striking – as evidenced by the broad, three dimensional Audi Singleframe and the door blade with the standard quattro embossing, among other features. At the same time, all lines are drawn with extreme precision and convey that lightness and sportiness characteristic of the vehicle.

    Handling qualities.

The performance of the Audi Q7 makes it the sporty and versatile representative of the segment of premium SUVs. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive makes inspiring traction and the corresponding driving pleasure standard features of each engine version. Another weighty argument is provided by the lightweight construction measures that make the Audi Q7 up to 325 kg lighter than its predecessor. In combination with the optional all-wheel steering, available for the first time in the Audi Q7, it achieves an agility and manoeuvrability remarkable for its segment.

    Driver assistance systems

The Audi Q7 displays its progressiveness in many areas – it is particularly impressive regarding driver assistance systems. Numerous new systems make their debut in this model: not only for Audi, but for the entire segment. Especially comfortable for the driver: the three assistance packages Tour, City and Parking combine the appropriate assistance systems as needed to facilitate the configuration.

  • Exterior design

    Design idiom.

•Front: appears focussed and dynamically forward-directed

    • Side: appears long, generously dimensioned and clearly structured

•Rear: appears wide and flat and therefore sporty

    Design lines.

The Audi Q7 has a powerful and distinctive presence on the road, not least thanks to its independent design lines giving it a striking appearance.

    • Clearly horizontally-oriented design lines make the Audi Q7 appear wider and flatter and therefore sportier.

    • Square and far-extending tailpipes on the left and right also contribute to the appearance of width.

    • Trapezoidal graphics in the rear, for example from the lamp inside edges aimed at the wheels, create stable, outwardly directed lines that give the Audi Q7 a firm footing

    • LED rear lights continue the graphics of the headlights

    • Long, straight lines underscore the size and the presence of the vehicle

    • Door trim strips with quattro embossing create the clearly structured sides of the vehicle

    • Progressive lighting design with double tapering at the vehicle front gives the car a focussed look

    • The body lines formed by the headlights, bumper, and Audi Singleframe create a forward-directed look

    • Distinctive, wide Singleframe with unique grille bar/tooth structure emphasises the off-road character

  • Sharpened, distinctive design idiom.

The Audi Q7 reveals many elements of the new Audi design idiom for Q models: it’s much more powerful and incisive, relies more on clearly accentuated lines and emphasises the horizontal through its more geometrical design. The effects include:

    • Reinforcement of sportiness and dynamics through emphasis on the horizontal

    • Precise, strictly geometric body lines create a forward-directed design

    • Clearly developed shapes and three-dimensional elements underscore the independent character of the Q-vehicles and emphasise their quality and distinctive presence

    • New design enhances the recognition value and also visually testifies to progressiveness

    Incisive quattro appearance.

The Audi Q7 embodies like no other current Audi quattroR permanent all-wheel drive. Its design alone indicates this positioning:

    • Striking door blade with large quattro embossing on the door surface

    • Round wheel arches and implied blisters recall the Ur-Quattro

  • Front view design.

    • New, powerful looking bumper

    • Three-dimensionally styled and sculptured Audi Singleframe

    • Striking double-arrow headlight graphics

The redesigned front bumper has a clearly three-dimensional shape. The clearly drawn lines underscore the powerful look of the Audi Q7.

    Audi Singleframe.

The Audi Singleframe of the Audi Q7 looks like a solid sculpture crafted from an aluminium block. Its clearly three-dimensional form, its horizontal toothed structure and its wide framing create an awareness of the status and presence of the vehicle.

The optional LED and Audi Matrix LED headlights are distinguished by a look with a double arrow structure. Its upper edge forms a line with the bonnet. They are directly connected to the Audi Singleframe and give a focussed look to the Audi Q7 standard-equipped with xenon headlights.

    Other design features:

    • Round wheel arches and implied blisters testify to the quattro genes of the Audi Q7

  • Design side view.

    • Distinctive door blades with quattro embossing

    • Wheels up to a size of 21 inches provide a sporty look

    • Optional full paint finish expands the design options of the exterior

    Door blade.

On both doors, the door blade exhibits quattro embossing, indicating the drivetrain of the Audi Q7.

18-inch cast aluminium wheels are already standard on the Audi Q7. Wheels up to 21 inches in size are optionally available. Their design ranges from sporty through distinctive to an off-road look.

    Full paint finish (optional).

In the standard equipment version, the front and rear bumper lower parts, sill trims and wheel arch trims are grained anthracite and form, together with the front and rear underbody protection in Barcelonetta silver, an SUV typical contrast depending on the selected equipment colour. With the optional full paint finish, the front and rear bumper lower parts, sill trims and wheel arch trims have a full paint finish, and the door trim strips with quattro embossing and the front and rear underbody protection come in Barcelonetta silver. The result is an even sportier and more elegant look of the Audi Q7.

  • Design, rear view.

    • Horizontal lines at the rear emphasise the width of the vehicle

    • Progressive LED rear lights in all models are standard

    Body lines.

The rear of the Audi Q7 is characterised by three horizontal lines. They run in the area of the rear lights, number plate and the bumper. They structure the rear and emphasise by their horizontal course the width and therefore sportiness of the car.

    LED rear lights.

LED rear lights are standard on all Audi Q7 models. They continue the styling of the headlights, creating an especially progressive look. As an optional feature with dynamic indicators, the LED rear lights impressively bring together an unmistakable look and high functionality. They are combined with LED and Audi Matrix LED headlights.

    Underbody protection.

The underbody protection in the rear is an eye-catcher of the Audi Q7. It’s wide and includes a diffusor in aluminium look as well as rectangular tailpipes.

    Other design features:

    • Wrap-around tailgate makes the rear look wide and facilitates loading and unloading.

  • Interior design.

Interior concept with two or three rows of seats makes the interior customisable. High-quality double inlay underscores the exclusive interior quality on D-segment level. Visible progressiveness: first Audi with optional Audi virtual cockpit and separate vertically retractable MMIR display (standard).

    Interior styling.

•Air vent strip emphasises the horizontal orientation of the interior

    • Double inlays underscore the interior quality

    • MMI display and Audi virtual cockpit for top display quality for driver and front passenger

  • Inlays.

For the first time, the Audi Q7 receives double inlays. The result is numerous possible variations for the dashboard, the door and centre console with respect to colour and aluminium, wood or painted surfaces.

The Audi Q7 is the first Audi with both an Audi virtual cockpit – directly within the driver’s view –and a large, vertically retractable MMI display sized 7 or 8.3 inches (only in conjunction with Audi virtual cockpit). Infotainment and navigation displays, for example, can be conveniently accessed and operated by the driver and front passenger. Operation is by MMI touchR in the centre console.

    Other design features:

The air vent strip runs along the entire width of the front passenger side, contributing to an especially generous feeling of space.

    • In conjunction with the 4-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning, the strip also includes a diffuse air flow feature directly for the front passenger.

  • Flexible interior concept.

The Audi Q7 has grown in its interior dimensions despite the more compact external dimensions. As a result, it’s more comfortable to drive through frequently narrow European city centres, while also providing more room for its occupants. The new dimensions benefit drivers in many ways. They include:

•Vehicle length less 37 mm compared with predecessor model: simplified parking and manoeuvring

•At 5,052 mm, remains the longest vehicle compared with the competition, for a correspondingly distinctive presence

•Shoulder width at front increased by 23 mm and in the rear by 10 mm: more room for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers

•Loading sill height lowered by 48 mm to 788 mm (values for 5-seater): more convenient loading and unloading

    • Entering and exiting the third seat row improved by double-folding of the outer seats of the second seat row and by larger door opening

    • Luggage compartment capacity of 890 litres is 240 litres greater than in the BMW X5 (650 l) and 200 litres greater than in the Mercedes-Benz M-Class (690 l)

    • Luggage compartment capacity with rear seat backs folded down is 1,955 litres – 85 litres more than in the BMW X5 (1,870 l)

    • All seats of the 2nd and 3rd rows fold down to extend the luggage compartment capacity as needed

    • 3rd seat row folds down and up electrically

    2nd seat row.

Already standard are the high variability and comfort of the second seat row of the Audi Q7.

    • Backrest angle adjustment standard at each seat

    • Backrest can be split 35:30:35 or completely folded down for an especially customisable luggage compartment

    • ISOFIX and Top Tether fixtures on all three seats for installing child safety seats. Optionally, the 2nd seat row offers even more versatility in combination with leather:

    • Manual seat fore/aft adjustment in the ratio of 35:30:35 for installing up to three child safety seats

    • In conjunction with seven seats, the outer seats can be double-folded for better access to the third seat row

    • Optional seat heating for the two outer rear seats of the second row

    • Rear centre armrest with 2 cup holders

3rd electrically operated seat row (optional).

Another strength of the Audi Q7 is its optional third seat row. With it, the Audi Q7 can accommodate up to seven people:

    • Two fully usable single seats

    • Both single seats electrically fold down and up separately to extend the luggage compartment as needed

    • ISOFIX and fixtures on both seats allow the installation of up to 5 child seats in the rear

    • Increased legroom compared with the predecessor model

    • Including seat belt force limiters and therefore child seat approval of group III (Europe only)

Engines and transmissions

  • Engine

The engines of the Audi Q7.

Powerful, efficient and state-of-the-art – the engines of the new Audi Q7. Always combined with the redeveloped 8-speed tiptronic transmission with shift-by-wire technology and the start-stop system, the Audi Q7 attains inspiring performance at relatively low CO2levels. All engines have a higher output and lower COemissions, and fulfil the strict EU 6 standard. New TDI engine generation is lighter, more dynamic and more efficient. Redeveloped 8-speed tiptronic and start-stop system with new features.

  • 3.0 TDI.

A new generation of the 6-cylinder diesel engine is installed in the Audi Q7. It has been further developed in many areas compared with the predecessor models: it is lighter and now has a variable turbine geometry for better flow, for better efficiency and for greater power delivery. The result is impressive: while the 3.0 TDI compared with its predecessor generates over 10 % more power, it emits about 23 % less CO2.

    • Less friction, lower weight and innovative thermal management reduce fuel consumption and increase efficiency

    • With start-stop system and recuperation

    • Meets the EU6 emissions standard

    • Maximum power output 200 kW (20 kW more than predecessor)

    • Maximum torque 600 Nm (50 Nm more than predecessor)

    • Fuel consumption, combined: 6.1 – 5.7 l/100 km (up to 1.7 l/100 km less than predecessor, values for 5-seater)

    • CO2 emissions, combined: 159 – 149 g/km (up to 46 g/km less than predecessor, values for 5-seater)

    • Standard with quattroR permanent all-wheel drive and 8-speed tiptronic

    Audi Q7 TDI e-tron quattro*.

The Audi Q7 e-tron quattro is the first Audi e-tron model with quattro and TDI technology. After the successful Audi A3 e-tron, it is the second Audi model to combine, as a plug-in hybrid, a purely electric driving experience with a high range, and attains impressive efficiency as well as remarkable handling characteristics.

  • Efficiency

    TDI efficiency measures.

In particular, the new TDI engine of the Audi Q7 is impressive with its numerous enhancements compared with its predecessor. They primarily benefit efficiency, but also driving performance. An excerpt from the numerous efficiency measures in the 3.0 TDI:

    • New turbocharger generation with variable turbine geometry improves response and noticeably enhances the vehicle dynamics

    • More efficient combustion process through improvement of swirl and flow rate of the intake ducts

    • Reduced frictional resistance in the engine

    • Lightweight construction of components like the crankcase, cylinder heads, wall thickness, camshaft bearings, crankshaft pins and much more, for lower weight

    • Innovative thermal management through, among other features, crankcase with integrated oil thermostat, cylinder head with two-piece water jacket, separate cooling of cylinder heads and crankcase allows faster cooling and heating of the engine for better efficiency

  • 8-speed tiptronic.

Each Audi Q7 is standard-equipped with the 8-speed tiptronic. For the first time, the shiftby- wire transmission in the Audi Q7 comes with the coasting mode. The enhanced transmission concept affords high shifting comfort and significantly helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

    • Shift-by-wire technology: electronic transmission of the gear selection for noticeably smoother operation

    • Coasting mode: when the accelerator pedal  is released, the engine starts idling and the drive line is opened; the vehicle “coasts” in neutral until the accelerator pedal is pressed

•The dynamic shift program DSP adjusts the driver’s driving style and automatically sets the appropriate shifting point for the given driving situation

•Integrated centrifugal force pendulum counteracts engine vibrations and allows very low engine speeds of up to 850 rpm for superior comfort and better efficiency

    • Torque converter provides more torque when starting off, for betters dynamics and greater sportiness

    • Affords the right driving style, from comfortable to sporty, depending on the selected Audi drive select mode

    • Greater comfort thanks to gear changes with no break in propulsive power

    Start-stop system.

The start-stop system is standard on every Audi Q7, and boasts new functions that make it even easier to use – and can further reduce CO2emissions. The new functions:

    • The system shuts down the engine as the vehicle comes to a halt (system detects brake as permanently actuated, speed below 3 km/h)

    • If the vehicle is stopped (e.g. using the electromechanical parking brake), the engine starts with actuation of the accelerator pedal to prevent the vehicle rolling backwards

    • If the vehicle is stationary for a lengthy period in drive position P, the engine may switch on and off several times, for instance to maintain interior climate control

    • If the selector lever is in one-touch or S mode, the start-stop system is not active

  • Handling Qualities.

quattroR permanent all-wheel drive standard for all models. Significant weight reduction by up to 325 kg. All-wheel steering for the first time in the Audi Q7 and unique in the competition. The Audi Q7 is the large quattroR. It underscores this fact with remarkable handling qualities. The permanent all-wheel drive is standard in each model, with the 325 kg in weight saving noticeable at every metre of travel. And the all-wheel steering available for the first time at Audi further increases agility, dynamics and comfort of the Audi Q7 significantly.

    quattroR permanent all-wheel drive.

Each Audi Q7 is standard-equipped with quattroR permanent all-wheel drive with selflocking centre differential. In its basic configuration, the planetary gear set splits the drive torque asymmetrically between the front and rear axle to promote dynamic handling. In conjunction with the wheel-selective torque control, the drive force is distributed to each individual wheel depending on the driving situation.

    • Permanent distribution of the propulsive power to all four wheels

    • Asymmetric, dynamic basic torque split in the ratio 40: 60 (front: rear)

    • Dynamic distribution of drive torque: up to 85 % to the rear axle or up to 70 % to the front axle

    • Power is split with virtually zero delay, selectively for each wheel and as a function of the driving situation

    • Torque distribution takes effect before any undesirable wheel slip occurs

    • Outstanding traction under all sorts of road conditions

    • Precision handling combined with excellent agility

    • Acceleration with high lateral stability

  • Aerodynamics

Many measures contribute to the good aerodynamics of the new Audi Q7, with many tangible benefits for the customer. For a lower drag coefficient can not only reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but also reduce the interior noise. An overview of the most important measures:

    • Drag coefficient reduced by up to 0.03 compared with the previous model, to now 0.32

    • Aero-underfloor: covers large parts of the underfloor (except for the propshaft tunnel and exhaust system) and thus provides better air ducting

    • Aero exterior mirrors: exterior rearview mirror housing in a new and aero-acoustically improved form is now mounted on the top shoulder instead of the door frame

    • Regulated cooling air inlet*: the radiator fins open and close depending on the driving condition and cooling requirement, with closed fins affording better aerodynamics

    • Aero blades on the outer edges of the rear window

    Mix of materials.

The Audi strategy in the field of lightweight construction is: the right material at the right place for the optimum function. In other words: Audi does not just employ lightweight materials as an end in itself or for marketing reasons. Rather, at every point on the vehicle, the material is chosen that offers the best combination of light weight and function. The above illustration shows what materials are used in the Audi Q7 body.

    •Cold-formed steel panels: 47%

    •Hot-formed steel panels:12%

    • Aluminium sheet: 23 %

    • Cast aluminium: 15 %

    • Aluminium profile: 3 %

  • Lightweight construction measures.

Lightweight construction plays an important role in the new Audi Q7. For lightweight construction has become a core competence of the brand with the four rings and an important element of the brand essence of “Vorsprung durch Technik”. Less weight also means enhanced lateral dynamics and sportiness, better agility and handling and lower fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions and also enhanced vibrational comfort with fewer vibrations in the interior – for example due to lower unsprung masses. The Audi Q7 employs lightweight measures, among others, for the following components:

    • Body in aluminium-steel composite construction

    • Front axle subframe and suspension strut brace made of aluminium and structurally improved swivel and radial bearings

    • Rear axle with weight-optimised single-tube instead of twin-tube shock absorbers

    •Weight-optimised subframe

    • Doors of aluminium

    • Module cross member made of aluminium

•Weight-optimised front and rear seat system

    • Air conditioning unit with thin-wall technology

    • Parts of the vehicle electrical system in aluminium

    • Loading floor of honeycomb material

    NEW Five-link

The newly developed five-link rear suspension replaces the previous double-wishbone rear suspension in the Audi Q7. It has many advantages:

    • New rear axle kinematics allows both comfortable and dynamic driving

•Weight reduced by about 40 kg compared with the predecessor model

    • Greater agility through lower unsprung masses for more fun, among other measures

    • Smaller turning circle for better manoeuvring

    • Greater ride comfort thanks to soft body suspension and low body roll on curves, for example

    • Allows the use of all-wheel steering

  • USP All-wheel steering (optional).

For the first time at Audi, the Audi Q7 comes with all-wheel steering. An optional feature, it is unique in the field of competitors and offers the driver many tangible benefits – both at low and at high speeds.

    • Smallest turning circle at speeds between 8 and 10 km/h

    • High speed range: greater driving comfort from lower yaw↗ of the vehicle as well as greater driving stability

    • Improved response to steering movements

    • More agile driveability through (e.g.) better cornering, especially at high speeds

    • No rear-axle steering is possible when stationary

adaptive air suspension & adaptive air suspension sport.

adaptive air suspension combines electronically controlled air suspension with a continuously variable damper system. The running gear can be individually set from sporty to comfortable through the connection with Audi drive select. In addition, equipment includes the tilt angle display. The adaptive air suspension sport is impressive with its more rigid damper settings and up to 10 mm lower vehicle level – for even better dynamics.

    • Five selectable height levels:

    • Standard ride height

    • Offroad (+ 25 mm)

    • Lift (+ 60 mm)

    • Dynamic (-15 mm)

    • Loading (rear– 55 mm)

    • Damper control and ground clearance adjusted depending on which Audi drive select mode is chosen

    • Lowering of the vehicle at higher speeds improves the aerodynamics and efficiency (e.g. Automatic: lowering by 15 mm from 129 km/h, Dynamic: lowering by 30 mm from 160 km/h)

    • Automatically adapts to the driver’s style depending on the mode and driven speed

•Body is kept level at all times, even if unevenly loaded, thanks to permanent self-levelling

•Rigidity of the air suspension and characteristic curves of the damper control are constantly adjusted to the loading level

•In combination with MMIR navigation plus with MMI touchR including tilt angle display

  • Audi drive select.

Different modes – auto, comfort, dynamic, efficiency, allroad, offroad or lift/offroad and individual – allow you to adjust the vehicle’s characteristics by adapting the power steering assistance, engine characteristics and gear change maps, adaptive air suspension (optional) and the settings of other optional equipment. The efficiency mode shifts the engine, transmission, climate control and the optional adaptive cruise control or cruise control to a more fuel-efficient basic setting.

6 Audi drive select modes for adjusting the vehicle characteristics:

    • auto (balanced)

    • dynamic (sporty)

    • offroad

    • efficiency(efficient)

2 additional Audi drive select modes inconjunction with adaptive air suspension:

    • allroad (+ 25 mm ground clearance)

    • lift/offroad (+ 60 mm ground clearance)

With the appropriate items of optional equipment, the following can be adapted:

    • adaptive air suspension

    • All-wheel steering

  • Driver Assistance Systems.

Audi Q7 introduces numerous new driver assistance systems* at Audi as well as in the segment. Driver assistance systems increase comfort and assist the driver in safe, relaxed driving.

Assistance packages: Tour, City and Parking compile various supplemental systems.

The new Audi Q7 sets new standards: no less than ten driver assistance systems are making their début at Audi – and to some extent in the entire segment. The new systems support the driver in virtually all driving situations. Especially comfortable for the driver: the three assistance packages Tour, City and Parking group together the appropriate systems as needed.

    * Availability of equipment varies by country.

    • Many driver assistance systems such as the new Audi pre sense city1 are already standard2 in the Audi Q7

    • Individual options turn assist and trailer assistant are USPs in the segment and available in an Audi for the first time

    • Many other systems are available in the Audi Q7 for the first time and individually combinable as separate options or as standard features

    NEW Tilt angle display.

The tilt angle display is available in the Audi Q7 for the first time – only in conjunction with the optional adaptive air suspension. It facilitates driving on uneven terrain, promotes the off-road cha- racter of the Audi Q7 and warns the driver in potentially critical situations.

    • Shows lateral and longitudinal inclination of the vehicle in the MMI display irrespective of acceleration

    • Visual signals inform the driver about the vehicle inclination: graphically with a 3D vehicle model and numerically with the current angle of inclination

    • Informs the driver about critical inclination angle when the vehicle inclination reaches 25° and warns of danger of tipping over at vehicle inclination above 35°

    • Display is enabled by selecting the Audi drive select modes allroad and lift/offroad

  • NEW Night vision assistant (optional)

The night vision assistant is available for the Audi Q7 for the first time. Besides detected persons, it can also highlight larger wild animals and make an important contribution to greater comfort as well as reduce the likelihood of an accident when driving at night.

    • The thermal imaging camera detects heat sources in and near the lane ahead

    • The thermal image in the driver information system shows warm areas in a lighter colour and cold areas in a darker colour. Pedestrians and animals may therefore sometimes become visible before entering the light cone emitted by the high beam headlights.

    • System highlights detected persons and detected large wild animals (at distances from the vehicle of approximately 15 to 90 m) in yellow in the display

    • The highlighting changes to red if the system identifies a possible hazard caused by the detected person or larger wild animal

    • An acoustic warning signal is given in the event of a hazard

    • Marking light can illuminate an object highlighted red three times in rapid succession3

    • An additional warning indicator can be shown in the optional head-up display

    • Unfavourable environmental conditions can impair image quality and system performance

    NEW Cruise control.*

The standard cruise control** on the Audi Q7 has been developed further. It now has the functions of the adjustable speed limiter and relieves the driver’s work load, especially over long distances.

    • Keeps the set speed between about 30 and 250 km/h constant, even on downhill stretches (maximum speed that can be set depends on engine output)

    • Speed can be set and saved in 1 km/h and 10 km/h increments

    • Set speed is disabled by return of lever or by braking – but not during a gear change

    • New function: Speed limiter allows a maximum speed to be set

    • Toggle between cruise control and speed limiter with LIM button on the multifunction lever

    • System can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions when travelling at constant speed

NEW Audi pre sense city (optional).*

Audi pre sense city is celebrating its Audi premi.re in the Audi Q7. The system implements preventive measures to protect the driver and passengers, and provides additional protection – also for pedestrians and other road users.

    • System detects within the system limits not only cornering and stationary vehicles, but also pedestrians

    • System is active at speeds of up to 85 km/h

    • Warns the driver of an imminent collision and, where required, initiates emergency braking

    • In the best cases, the system can help completely avoid a collision

    NEW Hill descent control (standard).

This assistant aids the driver when travelling downhill to maintain the desired speed by exploiting the engine-drag torque and active brake interventions.

    • System keeps constant the speed driven when starting downhill

    • Driver can concentrate on steering, the assistant takes over braking and acceleration

    • Control at speeds of about 4 to 30 km/h when travelling along stretches of road with a downhill gradient of about 6 to 60 %

    • Function can also be used in neutral “N” as well as in forward and reverse gears

    • Can be activated at speeds of up to 60 km/h

    USP Trailer assistant.

The newly available trailer assistant (included with order of trailer towing hitch) makes manoeuvring with a trailer easier. In particular, during reversing the simple operation with a rotary push-button control is a big help for the driver.

    • System is enabled at the press of a button when reverse gear is engaged

    • On activation, the assistant automatically steers the vehicle and trailer in the direction specified by the rotary push-button control

    • The desired articulation angle  (or the desired path of travel) is conveniently set with the rotary push-button control of the MMI. system

    • System analyses the articulation angle of the trailer and shows in the MMI display the current, desired and maximum possible path

    • Allows control of the vehicle and trailer without use of the steering wheel (countersteering with the wheel no longer necessary)

    • Driver need only select the gear, accelerate, brake and monitor driving

    • Trailer assistant automatically brakes if the driver exceeds a defined speed or the train reaches a critical articulation angle

    • Steering angle is computed independently of particular type of trailer and drawbar

    • Active assistant can prevent collision between vehicle and trailer

  • Parking assistance package (optional).*

    • Assistance package compiles systems that assist the driver in particular when parking

    • Park assist and 360 degree cameras available for the first time in the Audi Q7

    • Systems complement one another for maxi- mum convenience when manoeuvring in and out of parking spaces

    NEW Park assist (optional).*

The park assist aids the driver during parking by assisting with the necessary steering operations.
    • Automatic turning of the steering wheel facilitates reversing into parking spaces (parallel and perpendicular parking) and manoeuvring out of them (parallel parking)

    • Within system limits and when activated, automatically identifies suitable parallel and perpendicular parking spaces along the road (up to 40 or 20 km/h respectively)

    • During parking the driver merely has to select the gear, accelerate, brake and monitor driving – the system performs all the steering movements

    • Also helps with parking in smaller spaces and on corners, as well as with multiple-move parking

    • Also warns of obstacles to the sides and displays these unless the engine has been switched off or vehicle has been stationary for 30 seconds (as the surroundings could change in this time)

    NEW 360 degree cameras.

The 360 degree cameras enable the driver to view the entire area around the vehicle by means of the MMI display. The virtual bird’s eye view available only in conjunction with this camera system provides particularly good orientation.

    • Four cameras cover the entire area around the vehicle using the camera views that can be selected in the MMI®

    • Cameras are located in the radiator grille of the Audi Singleframe, in the rear and in the two exterior mirror housings • Driver can choose from four camera perspectives (front, rear, front transverse left/right, rear transverse left/right) as well as a virtual bird’s eye view

    • Bird’s eye view is generated artificially by views of all four cameras

    • Cameras can see all around the vehicle

    • Front transverse left/right, rear transverse left/right views provide a 90° view relative to the direction of travel before entering cross-traffic

    • Bird’s eye view is very useful for manoeuvring into (e.g.) tight parking spaces

    Reversing camera (optional).*

    • Image of area behind the vehicle on the MMI display

    • Dynamic display elements for the vehicle’s calculated path (dependent on steering angle), including help and guide lines for assisting parallel parking

    • Virtual blue area in the camera image indicates where the vehicle will be standing after the parking operation

    * Please note: the systems operate only within system limits and assist the driver. However, the driver remains responsible for driving the vehicle in traffic and is required to be attentive.

  • City assistance package (optional).*,**

    • Assistance package compiles systems that assist the driver especially in urban traffic

    • Exit warning USP in the segment

    • Cross-traffic assist available for the first time at Audi

    USP Exit warning.

The exit warning makes its début in the Audi Q7. It increases protection not only of the vehicle occupants, but of other road users as well. For the system can prevent accidents with other road users approaching from behind when the vehicle doors are opened

    • The system warns and relieves efforts by the driver and passengers

    • Two radar sensors in the rear bumper cover the area of the adjacent or side lanes next to the vehicle

    • The system monitors approaching road users (detects metallic objects such as bicycles, cars, motorcycles, etc.)

    • Warns the driver in two stages of detected traffic alongside the vehicle

    1. Information: visual on-board indication by a red LED light strip on left/right inside door trim

    2. Warning: acoustic warning to driver and bright lighting of the LED light strip

NEW Audi pre sense basic (optional).*

The integral safety system provides preventive measures to protect the driver and passengers and intervenes on detection of an unusual manoeuvre.

    • Classifies driving situations through networ- king of different vehicle systems

    • If Audi pre sense basic detects an unusual dri- ving manoeuvre, various reversible measures can be implemented

    • Reversible belt tensioning: automatic full or partial tensioning of the driver and front passenger seat belts (can be turned off with MMI®)

    • Automatic closing of the panoramic glass sunroof (if fitted) and the side windows to shield the passenger compartment is started

    • Hazard warning lights: warns following traffic about hazardous situation

    NEW Audi side assist.*

The lane change assistant supports the driver by LED indicators at both exterior mirrors when changing lanes and combines this information with the integral safety measures of Audi pre sense rear and Audi pre sense basic.

    • Enhanced protection and a more comfortable feeling while driving: 2 radar sensors in the rear bumper monitor the lanes to the left and right of the car as well as the area up to about 70 m behind it at speeds between 10 and 250 km/h

    • Intelligent system:

    • Warning if the indicator is used: the LED display flashes several times if a vehicle is identified and the lane-changing manoeuvre is judged to be dangerous; this diverts the driver’s gaze to the exterior mirror

    • Information if the indicator is not used: the LED display in the exterior mirrors illuminates if a vehicle is identified and the lane- changing manoeuvre is judged to be critical; this is normally only seen when the driver looks in the mirrors

    • System alerts driver to vehicles detected in the blind spot as well as identified vehicles that are approaching fast from behind

    • Includes Audi pre sense rear: uses the rear sensors of Audi side assist to detect a possible rear-end collision within the system limits and initiates the appropriate measures (including belt tightening, closing windows) as needed

    • Includes Audi pre sense basic: see left

    • Even if Audi side assist is switched off, Audi pre sense rear remains active (exception: trailer operation)

    * Please note: the systems operate only within system limits and assist the driver. However, the driver remains responsible for driving the vehicle in traffic and is required to be attentive.

    ** Depending on country-specific availability.

  • NEW Cross traffic assist.

The cross traffic assist is available for the first time in an Audi. It supports the driver when reversing out of a perpendicular parking space. The system informs the driver of detected approaching vehicles with an indicator in the MMI display and can, in especially critical situations, reinforce this warning with a warning tone and if necessary a brake jolt.

    • Two radar sensors cover the area behind the vehicle and the side lanes to the left and right behind the vehicle

    • The system reacts in two stages on detection of cross traffic behind the vehicle

    1. Information: visual depiction of the situation in the virtual bird’s eye view on the MMI display with a red arrow on left or right depending on hazard

    2. Warning: the driver is warned by an acoustic signal and if necessary by a single jerk of the brake

    • Makes backing out of parking spaces or driveways with obstructed views easier

    • Can reduce the risk of an accident when pulling out of a parking

    Parking system plus (optional).*

Parking system plus assists the driver when parking and manoeu- vring by means of a virtual lane display and selective visual dis- play of the distance to detected objects, among other measures.

    • Acoustic and visual parking system, front and rear

    • Selective, visual display of the distance to detected objects in the MMI display, as a function of the current steering angle and the direction of travel

    • White segment indicates a detected obstacle outside the vehicle path

    • Red segment indicates detected obstacles in the driving path • Only relevant obstacles in the roadway are indicated acoustically

    • Virtual lane display supports the driver by showing lateral guidelines

    • The system is activated when reverse gear is engaged, with a button in the centre console and automatically as soon as the distance to a detected obstacle is less than approx. 90cm.

    Parking system, rear.*

The rear parking system makes reverse parking easier by also acoustically indicating obstacles not visible to the driver.

    • Makes precision parking easy, even in tight spaces

    • Acoustic signal when reverse parking

    • Increasingly rapid acoustic signal indicates reducing distance to the detected object behind the vehicle

    • The signal becomes a steady tone at 30 cm distance to the obstacle

    • Measurement by ultrasonic sensors discreetly concealed in the rear bumper space

    * Please note: the systems operate only within system limits and assist the driver. However, the driver remains responsible for driving the vehicle in traffic and is required to be attentive.

  • Tour assistance package (optional).*,**

    • Assistance package compiles systems that assist the driver especially on longer trips

    • Traffic jam assistant and predictive efficiency assistant are USPs in the segment and available in an Audi for the first time

    • Distance indicator and distance warning for the first time in the Audi Q7

USP adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function including traffic jam assistant.

For the first time in an Audi, and unique with this functional scope in the segment, the Audi Q7 employs intelligent distance and cruise control in combination with the traffic jam assistant. The latter takes over the transverse guidance and steering of the vehicle in congested and slow-moving traffic.

USP adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function.

    • adaptive cruise control automatically main- tains distance from the vehicle in front in the control range from 0 to 250 km/h

    • The system automatically brakes and accelera- tes to keep the set distance largely constant

    • 5 distance stages selectable

    • Distance and acceleration behaviour also adjustable via Audi drive select

    • Stop&Go function allows automatic braking to standstill and automatic restart when the driver wishes

    Traffic jam assistant.

    • Additional traffic jam assistant is available over the speed range 0 to 60 km/h

    • Within the system limits, the traffic jam as- sistant combines longitudinal guidance of the vehicle (acceleration and braking) and active transverse guidance (steering) within the same lane or within the convoy of vehicles

    • At speeds above 60 km/h the function passes to the adaptive cruise control and the active lane assist

    • Allows for the first time in an Audi semi-auto- nomous driving in congested and slow-moving traffic

    • Even greater comfort, especially in monoto- nous driving situations

    • Vehicle aids the driver in braking, accelerating and steering when the traffic jam assistant is enabled

Within its limits, the system detects the carriageway markings, structures next to the road like guard rails, vehicles on adjacent lanes and a number of vehicles ahead. Only the traffic jam assistant of the Audi Q7 provides such a comprehensive information base. From this information the system derives a virtual driving path, into which the traffic jam assistant guides the Audi Q7. The large number of parameters used enables the traffic jam assistant to make driving as smooth and as foresighted as possible in congested situations.

    NEW Distance indicator.

A new feature in the Audi Q7 is the distance indicator. When the adaptive cruise control is disabled, it helps the driver to maintain the appropriate distance to the vehicle ahead.

    • From a speed above 60 km/h computes the time interval to the vehicle ahead

    • Shows the driver the time interval in an easy-to-read depiction in the driver information system

    NEW Distance warning.

When the adaptive cruise control is disabled, the distance warning supplements the distance indicator.

    • Warns the driver if the vehicle falls below a predefined distance to the vehicle ahead

    • The driver can even set a distance threshold of 0.6 to 3 seconds in the MMI

    • If the vehicle falls below a threshold distance, displays a warning in the driver information system and on-board computer with strikingly red graphics

    * Please note: the systems operate only within system limits and assist the driver. However, the driver remains responsible for driving the vehicle in traffic and is required to be attentive.

    ** Depending on country-specific availability.

  • NEW Audi pre sense front.

Audi pre sense front supplements Audi pre sense city (standard in Europe; see p. 25) with a collision warning as well as partial and target braking over the entire speed range up to 250 km/h. For the first time, Audi pre sense front has been sup- plemented in the Audi Q7 by the turn assist and collision avoidance assist as additional systems.

    • Also enabled when adaptive cruise control off

    • Uses radar sensors of the adaptive cruise con- trol with Stop&Go function including traffic jam assistant and monitors front traffic in terms of risk of collision

    • System provides preventive measures to protect the driver and passengers

    • Can help reduce the collision speed to ameliorate or, in the best case, avoid the collision

    • The system reacts to detected hazard in up to four stages:

    1. Visual and acoustic warning to the driver, prefilling of the brake system and shock absorber adjustment

    2. If necessary: if the driver does not respond, a one-time warning jolt occurs, with partial braking and belt slack reduction

    3. If necessary: extended partial braking and initiation of measures by Audi pre sense basic

    4. If the collision is unavoidable, the system initiates full deceleration

    USP Collision avoidance assist.

Collision avoidance assist is part of the Audi pre sense front system in the Audi Q7. It supports the driver in an evasive manoeuvre by specifying an active steering torque. This reduces the risk of a collision or straying from the lane.

    • Collision avoidance assist is activated in two stages:

    1. Warning jolt by Audi pre sense front

    2. Driver triggers evasive manoeuvre

    • System supports the driver when turning out of his own lane and turning into the adjacent lane.

    • System computes from the distance, width and lateral offset of the preceding vehicle a suitable evasive path in order to guide the Audi Q7 around the other vehicle at safe distance

    • The driver must remain active throughout the entire evasive manoeuvre and determines the direction of the evasive action himself

    USP Turn assist.

The newly available turn assist is part of the Audi pre sense front system in the Audi Q7. It can detect the risk of collision with oncoming traffic at an intersection in due time. If necessary, the assist actively intervenes in the turning process and can help reduce the collision severity or, at best, avoid a collision entirely.

    • Supports the driver when making a left turn at an intersection

    • Only available in conjunction with Audi pre sense front (part of the Tour assistance package)

    • Radar sensors monitor the intersection traffic when the indicator is operated

    • Functional range between 2 and 10 km/h • Braking to a standstill on detection of an approaching vehicle

    • Driver is informed of the intervention by the “pre sense” indication in the driver information system

    • Brake is released again when no more vehicles are detected on the oncoming lane

  • Audi active lane assist (optional).*

Audi active lane assist makes gentle, centering steering interventions to help the driver stay in the correct lane. This provides greater protection and comfort in particular on motorways and trunk roads.

    • The driver has a choice of two system settings:

    1. Early steering point: continuously helps the driver to stay in lane with steering interventions that centre the vehicle in its lane

    2. Late steering point: intervenes if the vehicle is about to cross an identified lane marking and provides a corrective steering prompt

    • Helps the driver when inadvertently crossing lane markings from a speed of about 60 to a maximum of 250 km/h

    • If desired by the driver, additional warning in the form of steering wheel vibration when identified lane markings are crossed

NEW Camera-based recognition of traffic signs (optional).*

The camera-based recognition of traffic signs allows comfortable reading of the given stipulated speed in the driver information system or in the Audi virtual cockpit. The advantages in detail:

    • Current detected speed limits, including additional signs, are displayed at all times in the Audi virtual cockpit

    • A situational evaluation also takes place when driving under wet conditions, when different speed limits apply at certain times of the day or when towing a trailer

    • Within system limits, the camera-based system also recognises temporary speed restrictions at road works and on digital signs (e.g. overhead signs on motorways)

    • Should the camera fail to see a sign properly, the speed limit from the data for the navigation system – if available – will be shown instead

    USP Predictive efficiency assistant

New in the Audi Q7 and unique in the competitive environment is the predictive efficiency assistant. The driver assistance system supports the driver in foresighted driving and can help save up to 10 % fuel and CO2 and thereby increase efficiency.

    • System analyses the predictive route data (including speed limits, gradients and curves) of the navigation system

    • Automatic adaptation of the ACC target speed at town limits and restricted speed zones and of the speed when cornering, with braking at intersections and roundabouts**

    • System provides two measures:

    1. with Audi drive select – efficiency mode: efficiency message: “Foot off the gas” in the driver information system or in the Audi virtual cockpit and head-up display (if available)

    2. Automatically activates the coasting mode of the engine or utilises the engine braking

    * Please note: the systems operate only within system limits and assist the driver. However, the driver remains responsible for driving the vehicle in traffic and is required to be attentive.

** Only available in conjunction with head-up display.

    3D sound.

Chiefly responsible for the new 3D sound of the Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System are additional speakers in the A-pillar, the midrange speakers of the system and a
new type of technology for sound processing. The mode of functioning is complex, and the result impressive: first, a semantic analysis process divides the individual sound components within the audio signal into three components: direct sound, early reflections and reverberation. The algorithm then intelligently distributes the separate audio objects in the vehicle, without adding any artificially generated parts to the music signal. The result is uniformly high-quality 3D surround sound reproduction. Because the system involves all sound dimensions – midrange, bass and treble – the music can unfold in its most pristine form.
